ChatGPT + Canvas = My new Secret Weapon?

Budgets are tight everywhere. But businesses still need regular, high-quality content. That’s where my monthly content strategy comes in. Instead of starting from scratch every time, I focus on a central theme each month and tweak it for different formats. It keeps messaging consistent, saves time, and—let’s be honest—makes life a whole lot easier.

The tricky part about rewriting

When I’m writing from scratch, pre-designed prompts are my go-to. But rewrites? They’re different.

All tools I’ve used run out of steam two paragraphs down. So by the end of the article you’ve got them rewriting a 250+ word section as a single line. Simple prompts just don’t cut it when I need to adapt existing content for a new audience or industry. This is why ChatGPT’s canvas is THE BEST!

Enter ChatGPT’s canvas feature

Today, I used ChatGPT’s canvas feature to tweak an article section by section, making it work for a new audience and sector. It turned out to be a really effective way to refine the content. Here’s why:

  • I could paste in sections and chat with ChatGPT about how to improve them.

  • I got real-time feedback and edits tailored to tone and industry expectations.

  • Instead of just plugging in a request and hoping for the best, I shaped the content interactively.

Some of the prompts I used

Rather than using a simple 'rewrite this' prompt, I guided the process to get the best results. Here are a few prompts that helped refine the piece:

  • "I need to rewrite this article for [industry supervisor]. The audience is lawyers, not accountants. Can you adjust it?"

  • "Summarise this court case and explain why it matters for UK legal professionals."

  • "Can we tweak this to show that [subject matter] involves both [some other information that will give my client away]?"

  • "Make this section more like a friendly guide instead of a formal report."

  • "Check for UK spelling and grammar, but please—no Oxford commas!"

Why this approach works

Instead of just letting AI take the wheel, this back-and-forth method meant:

  • The article stayed true to its audience.

  • Key messages weren’t lost in translation.

  • I saved time while keeping the quality high (my Teamwork timer tells me it took 1h 22m)

This process proved something big—AI isn’t here to replace thoughtful writing… it’s here to help refine and streamline it. To be honest, the canvas feature made rewriting a lot more interactive and fun too. If you’re adapting content for different audiences, I highly recommend giving it a go.
